The Reston Historic Trust and Museum Presents:
FOUNDER’S DAY 2017

Reston, VA — Come celebrate the 53rd anniversary of Reston’s founding with your family, friends and neighbors. Join the Reston Historic Trust and Museum (RHT) at the annual Founder’s Day event Saturday, April 8 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Enjoy a full day of family-friendly activities, remember founder Robert E. Simon Jr. and the history of this special community, and rekindle your love affair with Reston.
Founder’s Day will feature a 50-foot Ferris wheel sponsored by Reston Association (RA). The ride will offer patrons the chance to see Reston’s first plaza from a new perspective and proceeds will benefit RHT and the Friends of Reston. Additional activities will be offered free of charge, including: a moon bounce, children’s activities and face painting.
Musical entertainment for all ages will be provided by local artists and schools. Performances will include: Langston Hughes Middle School Jazz Ensemble; Lake Anne Drumming Ensemble; Lake Anne Choral Ensemble; the Reston Chorale; the Reston Encore Chorale; and Catchin’ Toads.
At noon, there will be remarks by local elected officials: Janet Howell, Ken Plum, Sharon Bulova, Cathy Hudgins, Pat Hynes, Ellen Graves and Beverly Cosham, as well as the dedication of the commemorative bricks to be placed in Lake Anne Plaza.
Visitors can also join the public art walk around Lake Anne, sponsored by Public Art Reston; enjoy screenings of the films Another Way of Living: The Story of Reston, VA and Fun, Beauty, Fantasy: Reston’s Public Art; visit the Reston Museum and preserve your memories of Reston by participating in the Storycorps program. Local authors will also provide insight into their books at an afternoon book signing event.

11:00 AM Fun, Beauty, Fantasy: Reston’s Public Art
This documentary of Reston’s Public Art will be shown in the Reston
Community Center’s Jo Ann Rose Gallery every 15 minutes from 11-12pm.
12:00 PM Founder’s Day Remarks
Hear a few short remarks from our local officials about Reston’s history and what makes our community so special. Beverly Cosham will sing and the South Lakes High School Color Guard will perform. There will also be a display of the commemorative bricks to be placed in Lake Anne Plaza.
12:30 PM Public Art Walk
A walking tour of public art around Lake Anne. The walk will last approximately 1 hour.
1:00 PM Another Way of Living
A documentary film about Robert E. Simon’s vision and the founding of Reston to be shown in the RCC’s Jo Ann Rose Gallery from 1:00-2:00pm.
1:00 PM Musical Entertainment Begins
